Featured technique 02: Psoas stretch (Move 34 of the side position routine)

This advanced move opens the hips and stretches the Psoas iliacus muscles and the anterior thigh

How to perform it (as shown):

  1. Sit behind your client and pivot to face thier feet with your knees apart and your right knee level with their lumbar area.
  2. Lean forward and support yur weight in fron of the client's body with your right hand.
  3. Grasp the left ankle with your left hand and sit backwards, drawing the client's left leg toward you (you do not need to lift it), ensure that your back is traight and shoulders open.
  4. Support the knee with your left hand with the foot cradled in your elbow
  5. Place your right palm securely on the sacrum, so that it dos not move
  6. Rotate your upper body so that your left arm pulls the client's left leg in an poserior direction (this is done using the upper torso, not the muscles of the left arm)

Effect: Stretches the Psoas muscle group, lessens lumbar tightness, improves breathing, stretches the anterior thigh, improves digestion

Variations: You can use your knee instead of your right arm to stabilise the sacrum

Contraindications:

  • Lumbar hernias
  • Inguinal hernias
  • Undiagnosed pain
  • Osteoporosis
  • Vertebral pathologies
  • Nerve compression
  • Inflammation
  • Knee pain

Caution:

Use gentle pressure and work with the Client’s breathing. This is an advanced move and may require preparatory work to relax the quadruceps

Make sure you stabilise the sacrum and pelvis, this is not a lumbar flexion!

Do not perform if Client has pain in this area, you could make it worse!

Nuad bo Ruan helps in the unblocking of energy in the person, it is not a substitute for medical treatment, if in doubt refer your client to a qualified medical practitioner.
