Featured technique 03: Supine upper body lift

 

 

                                    

 

                         

This move is used to open the upper back and shoulders, and to stretch the lumber spine and gluteus muscles , it also opens the hips joints.

 

How to perform it (as shown):

 

1.   abduct the client's legs and place them crossed in front of your shins (make sure your shin bones are not touching theirs)

2.   bend down and take a hold of your client’s arms  above the wrists

3.   As your client exhales, straighten up, pulling your client's body upwards.

 

Effect: Stretches posterior deltoids, Lattisimus dorsi, Teres major and minor, displaces scapulars laterally , opens arm joints, extends lumbar vertebra and fascia, stretches gluteus maximus, piriformis and gemellus muscles, opens the ischio-femoral joint

 

Variations: You can push your knees forward to increase the effect on the lumbar stretch.

 

Contraindications:

 

  • Cervical hernias
  • Neck pain 
  • Undiagnosed pain
  • Osteoporosis
  • Hip replacement surgery
  • Knee pain 
  • Nerve compression
  • Inflammation

Caution:

Perform this move slowly, try not to use your arm muscles.

Do not perform if Client has pain in this area, you could make it worse!
