Featured technique 05: Knee press with Butterfly Stretch

 

 

               

 

                         

Quite a difficult move, which opens the middle back and upper chest

 

How to perform it (as shown):

 

1.   Squat behind your client with your right knees on the paraspinal muscles of the lower thoracic spine, and yor feet turned outwards

2.   Place the clientìs hands behind her head and with fingers interlocked

3.   Interlock your arms with hers and grasp her wrists as shown

4.   As the client exhales, slowly lean back, applying a gentle traction with your arms

 

Effect: Opens the Thoracic Cavity, releases shoulder tightness, frees up breathing, straightens Thoracic and lumbar spine 

 

Variations: You can repeat, moving the knees up and down the paraspinal muscles,

 

Contraindications:

 

  • Vertebral hernias and pathologies 
  • Undiagnosed pain
  • Osteoporosis
  • Shoulder pain
  • Nerve compression
  • Inflammation

Caution:

This is quite a difficult move requiring flexibilty of the practitioner's knees and feet, and good balance.

Do not perform if Client has pain in this area, you could make it worse!
